To help you balance your mid-range a lot easier, You want to have a high-pass filter at 250 Hertz and a low-pass at 6k. These filters are in place because everything below about 250 is pretty much the low end and everything above 6k is the high end between these two filters. You also have the midrange, and this is what you are really trying to improve the purpose of the EQ.
