[Production process]

-

We first started this project with the idea of producing a song in the “Open A add4” tuning (DAEAC#E). My first exposure to this scintillating tuning came through math rock/midwest emo music, by artists such as ‘Sleepy Dog’ and ‘Midwest Pen Pals’. I discussed developing a song in this tuning with naut, a good friend and fellow producer who I've worked on projects with previously. He was open to the idea and so began the production of our entry!

If not for Ethan suggesting we collab on this idea of his, I don’t think I would’ve taken part in the competition at all. The timing was not ideal for me but we managed to scrape something together in the end! This new tuning and play style was definitely a challenge for me, but I had fun and learned a lot from the experience. There are a good handful of things I would’ve loved to iron out with more time on my hands, but regardless I am glad we managed to deliver a submission at all!

  • I'm on the train tracks.

    Working to the climax.

    Problems come in waves.

I'm sick and tired of waiting for your breath.

I held you and felt me, I couldn't doubt you.

    Oh without you..

Something's not right, something's wrong... What have you done?

    I don't know.. //(unintelligible) // :)

    • I'm out of my bounds, though im still stuck inside..

Like a moth to the light, i'll stay by your side.

Trying to fix you seemed so clear, something right for someone dear.

I didn't feel as if it couldn't last.

Things just came from nowhere so fast.

      Had to rearrange my routine.

Up at night, sleeping as the birds sing.

some quick touch-ups before mastering. [note] remember infy, if you should want to export the individual stems for vocals, instruments and drums, that can easily be done in this project by soloing master mixer strips.

    -fixed jarring vocal crossfade

-slight volume increase on intro part

-volume automation on sudden chord in ambient outro

-some chorus vocal mixing, normalizing de-essing

-added sidechained compressor to instrument bus to make kick and snare stand out some more

    -small changes to outro arrangement

    • I'm very excited to see the finished product :D

    • oof, that's tedious. Good luck though, can't wait to hear the result!

    • Every instrument, I am exporting.

  • Damn! This is really nice! Love the flow x)

  • nice tune, love the ethereal parts. vocals fit great too, like a gentler and not-british Sampha. they're a bit buried especially in the second section

    • damn nice one haha

    • Thanks @opaqity

We ran out of time for the second section, aeiter came in clutch and recorded the last part 15 minutes before deadline haha

  • Wow, only discovering this now. Magical. Such a lovely intro and outro. And aeiter, your voice is beautiful, it fits really well with the whole atmosphere of the track. Top 12 for sure <3
