Mixing is the balance of the level of each element in a track. Normally you want vocals up front, the kick and bass to sit pretty loud and everything else to be either panned a btr left or right or EQ'd so that its harmonic content is overlapping as little as possible with the other elements.

You listen to songs you like the production on in high quality audio and compare where your levels are set to theirs. You can also consider the critical frequency bands on pink noise to your mix and match your mix to that.
