idk really, it's probably mostly just trying random stuff and hoping it works. but also, the more you make music, the better your judgement becomes and it gets easier to tell whether it sounds good or not

i always use my own chords, but i don't know how (sorry lol). in specific ocean, i think i based it around the bassline and sort of just adjusted the chord notes to fit (not sure tho).
I saw your comment on TheWanderingRabbit's wall, and I just wanted to say I know say that pissed off feeling where you feel like you can't do as well as what you've just listened to. Ignore that feeling and press on because, no matter how good you'll get, you'l always get that feeling! Keep at it! :)
