cranked this out in a little over an hour

might come back to fix the intro a little, as well as a few minor edits here and there.

  • So I saw your "rant" earlier:

I wouldn't say this sounded like a total beginner made it, but it does sound like it was made in an hour by a non-pro. The main bass sounds super basic and kind of bland. The synth playing the melody at 01:25 however sounds cool.

None of the drums really sound processed in anyway, particulalry the main snare which sounds like a standard snare with some reverb thrown on. What I would do is tighten it up so it slaps harder by compressing it, or, create a longer tail

    • To try to break the cycle, I'm going to try to make some edits to this track, maybe later today and see what I can do. It'll be start at least

    • I rarely come back to stuff once it's out there; I'm terrible for it. Sometimes I just can't find the energy to make the edits necessary.

This is why I try to take time doing all of that within the initial draft and only release something when I feel it can't be made better (by me) or is how I want it to sound (experiments aside)

I've sent some stuff to artists for critique a couple of times; not had the response you did, but usually get ignored. Two however gave good feedback, so there's that

    • Still though, I am in the very early stages of music making and I know that any criticism is helpful. I know that I have a very, very large amount of knowledge and info to learn, and I'm going to take the time to do that. In some ways, maybe I am still a beginner, and that's alright too. But I'm going to take your advice to start processing the overall sounds more and experiment with that, and hopefully I'll begin to improve. Again, thank you @Cal Lycus . I really appreciate it.
