I think the cool bass growl thing at is causing some masking issues with the 808.
I'd not be surprised if that kick clips the track on each hit.

Ahh, that explains what I thought was masking; an intentional drop out of the 808 entirely. In which case, you could beef up the low-end on the growl, or add a sub-bass layer to it so it hits a little lower and fills that new gap.
