Also, boost and cut the frequencies of each instrument to achieve the right sound for the mix, but be careful to not overdo it, because then it will distort a lot.

Music theory is mainly for complex chords. You can be highly talented by testing your ears and seeing what fits. It's like choosing the perfect piece in a puzzle set.
