  • congrats! I didn't pay close attention and realize how long and detailed this is until I saw you placed first. Dude, I've been missing out! Sorry for sleeping on you, this feels like a new classic for audiotool!

    • my humblest of apologies ahh comment fr, but fair

  • The vocaloid sells it tbh but still amazing

  • yea bro

  • Got me nodding

  • I mean this is obviously the best track of the contest in terms of raw content, but it's not quite perfect for me; the pokemon build up has always been iffy, especially since the track suddenly stops to bring it in

more importantly while every individual element is mixed well in the parts they serve best, the mixing takes a pretty awful turn at the objective best part of the track ( 2:53 ) when a sudden dip in the high mids/low highs happens and the entire section sounds hollow and frankly, bad

    • jxle you're right that it sounds "drowned out" but that's actually very much intentional. without it you lose the contrast of going from blurry -> crystal clear and the drop sounds weak. it's a classic edm trick used to make the drop stand out more and in the case of this track it's also used as symbolism. so while it temporarily sounds "worse" (hollow, drowned out, less bass) it serves an important role in making the drop feel more bassy, full and clear through contrast

    • Personally, I think the buildup was kind of, not in a mean way, goofy, I don't know how to explain it, but it almost felt as if it didn't belong in the song, especially at 1:19 , it kind of drowns out, and feels to "together". Other than that, it would take years for me to make something that could even relate to this. I think its spectacular.

    • for sure, I think it actually IS a hype moment. I didn't really give a good reasoning for my take earlier but the reason it's iffy for me is because I truly find the build up so hilarious and the fact that it happens after a sudden pause makes it just that much more funny and I guess the struggle I have with it in that regard is that I don't really know if I want to have such a funny moment in a track that is definitely not supposed to be taken as funny? but in the end it's subjective

  • 2 years in a row, the cover art has been eye related

    • yeah okay we have two eyes now what's the issue

    • honestly not on purpose i just scrolled pinterest for like 5 hours and this was the best i could find

  • Congrats on the win! Not like it was a surprise though. This is just on another league completely

  • drop is really insane

kinda inspires me to try something

    • With that being said, this isn't just music, it's storytelling. And I fucking love that

  • this track gives me a sense of nostalgic hope and pure ectasy of joy and happiness oh my gosh this is beyond what i was expecting upon re-listening GUH

    • there's no way this WON'T get #1, i can smell all the judges praising this track like mad

  • There is so much finesse and poetry in this piece, it annoys me, thank you

  • How does one oven make their mixes this clean, loud and crisp?

Also how do I still after 8 years have nothing to offer 🥲

    • Thanks.

    • also one extra thing that might help if you're on headphones:

it basically tries to make the frequency response of your headphones match the harman curve which is designed to make reference tracks sound as good as possible on average. it's free and in my opinion it makes certain mixing decisions feel much more obvious

    • if you clip a sine wave it will be very audible but if you eg clip a square wave you're essentially just lowering the volume of the square wave. so how audible clipping is depends heavily on what sounds you're clipping. id definitely just try to listen for this and not rely on visualizations too much. in general i only use visualizations as a guide - final decision is always by ear.

and dont feel discouraged ive been doing this for 12 years and im still learning

    • tysm genuinely means so much!! and feedback/criticism is always welcome especially coming from you feel free to dm

    • You should seriously be so proud of yourself. I've literally never heard something like this on AT. Like, this is mind blowing. I can def see you making it somewhere in no time. I do have feedback though, it's just about the mix though. And some of the bass design - but that part is just me being extremely picky. I'll give you feedback in dms on discord if you want, since it's not really appropriate here.
