Helmholtz

Resonator

Helmholtz Device

Essentials

Helmholtz adds pitched resonances to incoming audio using up to five delay lines tuned to specific frequencies. The resonance continues after the incoming signal becomes quiet, creating sustained harmonic textures from percussive or noisy sources. Perfect for transforming drums into pitched textures, adding harmonic content, or creating evolving pads from noise.
  1. Five delay lines (filters) that can be tuned to specific musical notes
  2. Comb filter behavior that highlights certain frequencies and their overtones
  3. Resonance continues after input signal becomes quiet
  4. Transforms percussive sources into pitched textures
  5. Must be placed after an audio source

ControlDescription
Decay Controls how long the delay lines resonate after the input signal becomes quiet (0 to 100%). Higher values create longer, louder resonance.
Gain Output level of the device (-∞ to 0 dB). Can only reduce gain, not boost.
Mix Dry/wet balance (0 to 100%). 0% = dry (0% effect), 100% = wet (100% effect)
On/Off Activates or bypasses the effect

Practical Tips

Practical Tips

  • Melodic automation: automate pitch for sequences.
  • Stereo spread: pan voices for width.
  • Layering: combine with delays/reverb for rich textures.
